Hell No, it’s not about page rank at all when you want the attention your website deserves.

It’s all about the content and words on your site that will determine on which page you’re website will be displayed in the search engines.

When your site is for example all about money, you talk money, dream money do money and in the end hopefully make money. Every sentence you write on you webpage has to do with money and every sentence has to come as a complete logical story about that money you talking about.

It becomes easier when you specialize in a certain field of expertise.

A friend of mine is enthusiastic about Forex robotraders that makes him all too much money. He decided to start a blog about Forex robotraders he uses and later on made a website to let the world now about this product.  His website didn’t do much for about 3 months, then came the changes in his web stats and he saw his website being found on certain words like robotrader, make money with Forex robotraders… and so on, the list grows daily.

His website shows every time on the first page of Google with the right keywords and Yahoo and MSN are following. Last time I checked on the word robotrader his site stood on number six in Google. Not to bad for a hobbyist.

The pagerank is zero, does pagerank matter? Perhaps! I don’t think to hard about it. Most webmasters have a need to link to each other and create pages full of links just to get noticed by the search engines that the rest of their website is full of crap.

The most visitors will not even notice which pagerank a website has and will not care about it, when the website they reached has professional look and has the tools they need it will already work for the most of visitors.

Writing articles then publish them on forums or blogs is a start, You will find when you search: SEO especially for Google an article from me…? It comes up number one in Google.

Yes from me, I learned some tricks in the SEO field so can you.

This article will show up on certain keywords also, so when you read this you know.

ne of the most overrated factors in the world of search engine optimization is the value o
pagerank. According to most expert articles about SEO, a site’s page ranking holds great importance especially when one wants to make a lot of money online. It is because your page rank entails not just your popularity as a website following a certain niche, but as your site’s substance and functionality in catering to your audience’s needs.

There are many views and opinions that revolve around the value of pagerank. While a lot of people rely on their pagerank to track the performance of their business, some experts meanwhile say that PR is just one of those SEO myths that only help boost competition among different websites. But how exactly important is your site’s page ranking? Yahoo Answers has some points which you have to consider:

Traditionally, it is the pagerank that plays a big part in establishing the overall value of a website. All websites start from PR 0, and eventually rise to the top, i.e. PR 10. The increase of your page ranking depends on how well you market your site in your chosen niche, and be gaining more incoming traffic to your site. You can get more traffic by following the different SEO techniques such as link building, keyword optimization and the like. If you have an ecommerce website, then tracking your stats and pageranks greatly important since you need more clients to serve and support your business.

However, the internet business has grown and ceased to be a popularity contest, and these days you no longer need to have a popular site just to incur profit. You can find some insights in Yahoo Answers that stress the value of a site’s functionality and target, organic traffic, as they are the ones that bring in more money to your site. In this light, you don’t actually need big traffic, as long as your visitors sign up and subscribe to your site’s goods and services.

There are also some sites that don’t do well with high PR. Rather than helping them succeed in the business, they only get lower profits due to the random traffic they receive. Unless they cater to general masses and are supported by sponsors (and can afford to be free sites), these sites would only lose more income, since users would only visit their page and not do anything of monetary value. This can be an SEO myth for some people, but there are actually isolated cases that prove true to this kind of occurrence in the internet business.

In ecommerce meanwhile, page ranking is always included in one’s site statistics. This kind of site needs high page rankings in order to be known in the business, as it not only needs subscribers as well as partnerships with other business sites. If you want to put up an ecommerce site then you should be able to understand the technicalities of page ranking, as people still rely on this factor with regards to tracking the performance of their sites.

The value of page ranking can be an SEO myth for some experts in the online business, but still a lot rely on PR in evaluating their sites. Yahoo Answers has a lot more differing opinions about this subject, so why not go and check them out to gain a better understanding of the value of PR.

The PageRank of a website is determined largely by the importance, or popularity, of the site based on the PageRank of the sites linking back to it. You must take advantage of quality backlinks to increase the PageRank of your site.

What are backlinks?

Plain and simple, backlinks are links that point back to your site. They are links you have exchanged with or received from other sites, as well as links placed strategically by you in forum posts, blog posts and comments, and the resource box of submitted articles. The submission of your site to website directories also provides backlinks that are highly favored by search engines.

Ideally these links, especially those placed in your forum signature and resource box of published articles (see my related article “Your Signature – An Internet Marketing Goldmine”), will contain keywords in the text of the link to create “anchor text.” Placing keywords in the text of the link anchors your keyword(s) to your url rather than anchoring “Click here” or your website name to your url. Not only do you have a backlink to your site, you have created a link of higher quality that includes the keywords you are targeting in your overall marketing campaign.

Why do I need backlinks?

The number of quality backlinks linking to a site is one of the main criteria used by Google and other search engines to rank and place websites. This statement, written by David Austin in a Feature Column of the Monthly Essays on Mathematical Topics, sums it up: “The fundamental idea put forth by PageRank’s creators, Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page, is this: the importance of a page is judged by the number of pages linking to it as well as their importance.”

With this all-powerful statement from the creators of Google, the importance should be clear: you need backlinks to attract the robots that determine the importance of your website. The value of your page, your website, in the eyes of Google’s robot lies in the number and quality of the links that it finds from other sites to yours. As the number of other popular, high-ranking sites find your site worth linking to grows, your popularity goes up along with your position in the search results.

In other words, quality backlinks are needed to entice search engines to stand up and take notice.

Backlinks are also helpful in leading visitors to your site. In this regard, backlinks are much like bread crumbs left by Hansel and Gretel to find their way back home. When your site is new, the robot will not place your site at the top of the results list immediately no matter how much time and effort went into the design and SEO of your site. Links from other sites that searchers are likely to find could lead them to your site if they look through the links page to find related products that might be available on your site.

In addition, links placed in posts to forums and blogs and the resource box of published articles have the potential of being seen and followed by thousands of visitors every day. If the forums, blogs, and article directories have high page ranks, you have more than just a link for visitors to follow, you have a quality link that will serve to increase your page rank as well as your traffic.

What are quality backlinks?

Quality backlinks are links from websites that have a higher page rank than your site, links from websites that have content or purpose related to your site (also known as relevance), links that include anchored text, and links that are built naturally over time, not a sudden increase in links just for the sake of having a high number of links.

Google has made it very clear that the importance of a site in the eyes of Googlebot is greatly influenced by the number and importance of the pages linking to it. In order to increase your PageRank, your website’s importance in the eyes of search engines, seek out links from higher-ranking sites that have related content, include anchored text in your signature for forum and blog posts as well as your resource box in articles, and let links build naturally over time. These practices will be a valuable part of your overall marketing strategy.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes your site’s importance in the eyes of Google. The scale for PageRank is logarithmic like the Richter Scale and roughly based upon quantity of inbound links as well as importance of the page providing the link.

The PageRank Concept

Since the early stages of the world wide web, search engines have developed different methods to rank web pages. Until today, the occurence of a search phrase within a document is one major factor within ranking techniques of virtually any search engine. The occurence of a search phrase can thereby be weighted by the length of a document (ranking by keyword density) or by its accentuation within a document by HTML tags.

Improving Your Page Rank

There are numerous tips floating around in webmaster circles about how to improve your ranking in search engine results on Google.

*	Get Those Inbound Links: Since Google ranks your pages according to the number of links pointing at your page, it stands to reason that you should try to get as many links pointing at your pages as possible. This is so obvious that I’m only mentioning it for completeness sake.

*	Submit to directories and sit relax. Start one by one and submit your link in all web directories. If you can, try to give a link back (reciprocal link on your page) to free directories, some directories does not need it, but if you provide them, their owners will look for your approval first.

*	Your Title Tag: Google seems to give weight to the title of your page. By title, I mean the text that is sandwiched between the HTML tags in the section of your web page. If you use a Web editor that automatically inserts a title like “New Page”, remember to change it to some meaningful text with your keywords inside to reap the benefit of this feature.

*	Update your website every day by adding more unique content. If you site has some information for a visitor then it is 100% chance for him to come back to your site again.

*	Keyword Density: It has often been observed that Google considers keyword density a large factor in ranking pages in search engine results, more so than many other search engines. You can read more about keyword density and how you can improve it on your pages from my other article, Improving Your Keyword Density for Search Engine Positioning.

*	Keyword-laden Links: According to a paper published by one of Google’s founders, if the links pointing to your page has the relevant keyword text in them, it will cause your page to be ranked higher in search engine results. For example, a link with the text “Cheap Shoe Store” pointing at your site will cause your site to be listed earlier if a visitor searches for “cheap shoe store” than if the link simply said “click here”. You can find a copy of the paper online at The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine.

*	The Google Toolbar: The Google Toolbar can be obtained free of charge for Firefox and Internet Explorer. It gives you an idea of how important Google thinks your site is (in general) by showing the Page Rank of any page that you visit.

Does anyone know if using Google Toolbar with turning on sending usage statistics in the options improves the site’s pagerank even though I have Google Analytics installed on my website?

My other question is I have a feeling something is not right with our website Pagerank because some of the pages are showing 0/10 or unranked even though they’ve been live on the internet for a long time and have been getting many hits.

Is it possible the URL redirection mask using ASP.NET is causing it? or perhaps is it HTML errors?

Thank you kindly,

PageRank is one of the critical factors that contributes to how high your website is ranked in the organic search engine results. Basically, a page can be assigned a rank of 0-10. This is the scale Google uses to measure the importance of the page.

But before you think you need a 10 to be considered important, consider this: of the billions of sites on the web, only a handful-literally-have a PageRank 10. Google is one. Yahoo is another. Even some of the most visited sites like AOL, EBay and Amazon aren’t perfect. They have a 9. While the popular social networking sites like MySpace and YouTube are ranked 8.

Those are among the elite sites that drive millions of visitors to their sites each day. A more standard quality PageRank is anything between 4 and 7. You want your site to be at least a four, and you only want to link to sites with a four or higher.

If you’re just starting out, you may only have a rank of 0. This could mean that a Google spider hasn’t crawled your site yet, you have no or few links to your site or you violate the search engine guidelines at Google. To increase your visibility in the search engines, you need to increase the number of quality sites that link to you.

Google sees each link to you as a vote for your page. The more votes you have, the more valuable Google considers your site. But if you vote for people more often than they vote for you (which means you have more outbound links than inbound links), your value begins to decrease.

And the number of votes isn’t the only thing that Google considers. The rank of the page casting the vote is even more important. If site A, a PageRank 7, votes for you by linking to your site, that vote is weighed more heavily than a vote from site B with a PageRank 1. The 7 helps increase the importance of your page; the 1 detracts from it.

Only it’s not quite that simple. Content also counts in the linking game. If that 7 site links to you but has content related to sports when your content is related to knitting, that vote does nothing to help your PageRank. Google has text-matching techniques to find pages that are relevant and important to rank the weight of your links.

Having links to your site on other sites in your niche is therefore important, but if you are just getting started, be sure all of your pages are linked back to your home page. By doing so, you are beginning to take steps toward increasing your PageRank and consequently increasing your visibility in the search engines.
